Susan Scott Wright, 80, of Philadelphia, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, after a short illness.
Born on Sept. 8, 1945, in Oil City, Penn., Susan was the daughter of Charles and Myra Scott. She graduated from Oil City High School and Katharine Gibbs College in Boston, Mass. She worked as a secretary in finance in Boston and for a law firm in San Francisco, and at the former Athens Furniture Company.
On April 24, 1982, Susan married Terry Nelson Wright Sr., and together they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.
Susan lived a life of deep faith, boundless love, and joyful service to others. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she treasured every moment spent with her family and considered them among God's greatest blessings in her life.
Her unwavering faith in God guided Susan’s daily actions and inspired her many years of service teaching Sunday School, leading children's Bible studies, and participating in Christian outreach programs that helped young people grow in their faith. She and Terry were active members of Light of Life Faith Ministries, Athens, Tenn.
The couple found great joy in traveling with family and friends, creating cherished memories and embracing new experiences wherever their journeys took them. Susan also delighted in the beauty of flowers, which brightened both her home and her spirit, and she shared a special bond with her beloved kitties, whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness.
Her legacy is one of faith, kindness, generosity, and love—a legacy that lives on through the family she cherished, the children she inspired, and the many lives she touched through her example of Christian service.
Susan is survived by her husband, Terry; children, Dylan and Terry “T.J.” Wright Jr.; grandchildren, Dylan “D.C.” (Alexia) Wright, Victoria (Ronald) Betts, Hannah (Kyle) Bolton, Alex Wright, Dorthy Wright, and Willow Wright; brother, David (Marlise) Scott; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Michael Racek.
A memorial gathering will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sun., July 26, at Light of Life Faith Ministries, 1112 Congress Parkway N, Athens, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Light of Life Faith Children’s Ministry.
