Obituary

John William Sherrill, age 88, of Tennessee, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and friendship. Born on March 28, 1938, in Lynville, Tennessee, John lived a long life marked by a devotion to family, and a kind spirit that touched many.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Arenda Sherrill.


John is lovingly survived by his daughter, Amber Lill and her husband, David; his cherished grandchildren, Madelyn Lill and David Lill; his siblings, Dr. Martin Van Sherrill MD, Albert Sherrill and his wife, Janet, Myra Burnett and her husband, Donald, Geraldine Perkins and husband John(deceased). Along with many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.


A believer in Jesus Christ, John carried his faith throughout his life and found joy in the people around him. He loved his family deeply and treasured the friendships he made over the years. Professionally, John spent much of his life working as an auto mechanic, though his talents extended into aviation and diesel mechanics as well. He was known for his skill, intelligence, and willingness to help others.


Outside of work, John enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends, and the occasional lively game of bingo. He maintained his sharp mind and quick wit throughout his life, bringing smiles and laughter to those fortunate enough to know him.


Affectionately known as a member of the “Gentlemen’s Club,” John was a familiar and welcome presence at Standifer Place, where he faithfully greeted the staff at the start of each day. His warmth, humor, and friendly spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.


John William Sherrill will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and enduring faith will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
